If you have both the Assassin’s Crimson Dagger and Assassin’s Cerulean Dagger talismans, then landing a critical hit will help replenish your HP and FP. On the bright side, she has low Super Armor, and charged attacks/leaping attacks/Ashes of War skills will, eventually, stun her and allow you to do a critical hit. Malenia Blade of Miquella in Elden Ring is going ot be a nightmare at phase 1 if you can’t perfectly time your dodges or blocks, if you can’t stunlock, and if your own summons get hit often. When she floats, that’s your cue to run away. She’ll then unleash several slashes, going back and forth multiple targets.
Blade Dance – The tell for this is when Malenia floats in mid-air for a couple of seconds. This is a high-damage ability that can kill you at full health if you didn’t put a lot of points into Vigor or if your physical defenses are too low. Charged Stab – When Malenia pulls back, she’ll do a quick lunging stab. Still, it’s possible to equip only a bow at the start before summoning the Mimic Tear, causing it to be a pure ranged DPS fighter (just try to keep Malenia’s aggro on you or she’ll rip your buddy apart). However, your clone will barely defend itself. The Mimic Tear alternative, meanwhile, allows you to be more aggressive (i.e., you and your clone are twirling around with the Eleonora’s Poleblade special attack). 
Greatshield/Haligtree Soldiers work well here for the stunlock, though once Malenia breaks loose, she’ll practically hit all of them in one swing and restore a ton of HP. But, if you have summons, then keep your fingers crossed that she doesn’t hit them as often or it’ll be a long fight. 
If you’re on your own, that means dodging and blocking when necessary.
Heal-on-hit – Every melee hit that Malenia lands will partially restore her HP. Your choice of summon here will determine how the fight will go because of Malenia’s abilities: If you give it a staff that requires a lot of Int but you yourself have a low Int stat, its spells will be weaker. 
However, its effectiveness will scale depending on your stats. The summon creates a clone of your character, complete with your loadout.
The other is the Mimic Tear Ashes, which comes from Nokron Eternal City. The first is the reliable Greatshield Soldier Ashes, which can stunlock your foe if she’s cornered.
